Golden Eagles are big birds. Big birds need big meals like this fallen mule deer. The circumstances surrounding the deer’s death are a mystery, perhaps a cougar or coyotes, maybe even the eagles themselves. We discovered the carcass when the ravens started a ruckus, noisily squawking and talking ill of our approach. The eagles suddenly took flight from the kill, flying low and slow into the distance.eagle full size image for article (1 of 1)

This was a good time for a trail camera.  Animals (or people) trip the camera’s IR motion sensor and the camera silently takes a photo, day or night. The trail cam placed discretely, we beat feet and left the area to return to normal. Several hours later, a return trip reveals that this immature golden eagle enjoyed a hearty lunch buffet.
