Join the Wenatchee River Institute and Icicle TV on Sunday April 27th from 12pm – 4pm at Lion’s Club Park in Leavenworth, WA for the 6th Annual Earth Day Community Fair. As always, enjoy live music, prepared food, a Farmers Market Showcase, a Health Fair, a wide variety of booths, displays, hands-on activities and fun for the whole family.
This year’s theme is Simply Sustainable – Bring it on Home! There are so many things – many quite simple – we can do as individuals, families and as a community in our day-to-day life that really can make an impact on the sustainability of our lifestyles and the planet. Peruse the booths at the fair and build your knowledge about everything from growing native plants, improving your health, and using green power, to finding new opportunities to recreate in our valley. You can also meet members of local organizations involved in sustainability, and find out how you can fit into the picture.
And, don’t forget your appetite! Food vendors returning from last year include Good Mood Food, Los Comparos, and Home Fires Bakery. There will be special children’s activities, live music, dancing or just tapping your foot to the music of Recycled Rhythms. A large silent auction where you might be able to snatch up a bargain while supporting the Earth Day Fair and the local programs it raises funds for, such as Veggie Vouchers for low-income families to spend at the Farmer’s Market, Wenatchee River Institute’s science education program for Wenatchee Valley elementary schools, as well as scholarships for summer camps and scholarships for Learn to Swim at the city pool.
This year, Icicle TV is bringing our own creativity to the event to help raise additional funds for sustainable practices. We’ve purchased vintage t-shirts from the Community Cupboard and Goodwill and have screen printed them ourselves with a variety of designs. The t-shirts will be for sale at the Earth Day Fair for $10 each and all proceeds will be donated at the Fair. We like the idea of printing on vintage because it’s the most eco-friendly since we are reusing/upcycling and no unnecessary additional resources have to go into manufacturing. We’ll have men’s and women’s t-shirts in a variety of sizes and colors, and a few kid’s t-shirts as well. Make sure to stop by and see us to get your own one-of-a-kind Icicle TV t-shirt for yourself!
The Wenatchee River Institute welcomes anyone who would like to volunteer, whether for an hour, a day, or as part of the organizing committee. If interested, please contact Lisi Ott, Chair, at (509) 548-6881. In the event of heavy rain, the Fair will take place under cover at Osborn Elementary School, 225 Central Avenue, Leavenworth.
