The last of the snow has melted off of Wedge Mountain, the iconic triangle shaped mountain that overlooks our beautiful town of Leavenworth, WA.

A snow-free Wedge Mountain is a common sign among area gardeners that it’s safe to plant tender annuals such as tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos, basil and dahlias.

The time for planting without threat of frost typically occurs in the Upper Valley around the middle of May, while gardeners in Cashmere and Wenatchee are able to plant a little earlier.   Many gardeners mark Mother’s Day as the safe date for planting while others plant by the full moon.

Current forecasts call for highs in the 70’s with lows well above the freezing level; prime planting weather is here.  The Icicle TV demonstration garden/raccoon sanctuary is filled with peas, lettuce, beans, and squash that have sprouted and our pepper and tomato starts are in the ground.
