The following photos were taken recently on Wheeler Street in Leavenworth. The tracks go through a residential driveway and head towards town. Wheeler Street is located just off of Ski Hill Drive and extends towards Tumwater Mountain. In addition to a handful of homes, this road is also lined with fields. A variety of wildlife can be spotted here due to it’s proximity to the mountains, but it’s a little close for comfort when it comes to big cats.
For size comparison, the footprints next to the tracks are from a size 13 Sorel boot. Our best guess is that these are cougar prints, possibly made by two animals. The photos were taken in the middle of the previous storm cycle, which would be an opportune time for hungry animals to come down to the lowlands in search of food.
What are your thoughts? Are these cougar prints or something else? If you’ve spotted wildlife in the area or interesting tracks, let us know. We would love to hear about it!
