Who doesn’t love pizza? Icicle TV is powered by the stuff, so when Eric Peterson invited us to come down to Leavenworth’s newest restaurant, family owned and operated Idlewild Pizza, we jumped at the chance to sample real wood fired pizza goodness! The restaurant is not open just yet, but the Idlewild crew hosted a soft opening recently to say hello to their new fans.

Part science, part art, pizza making the old fashioned way is definitely not setting the oven for 400 degrees for 14  minutes. The pies have to be constantly tended to achieve that perfect level of pizza-ness; a little crusty, a little cheesy and totally delicious.

Idlewild’s subtle minimalist decor is a mix of old school charm and classy touches.  Wood fired pizza means just that- an giant oven that serves as the centerpiece of the area behind the bar. Surprisingly not too hot, the oven is fire walled and is cool to the touch.

The reclaimed planking ceiling is richly offset with classic photos and intimate lighting. Floor to ceiling glass doors allow natural light in, opening to allow patio diners a seamless dining experience.  Family operated, the Peterson family will be on hand to serve up the perfect pizza soon!
