Climbing_December_thumbnailWhat to do when the snow is scarce and skiing just isn’t in the forecast? Ditch the usual bad weather diversions such as drinking copious amounts of coffee during marathon Call of Duty Sessions and head up the Icicle for some last minute climbing.

The season for rock climbing in Leavenworth typically ends when the snow flies, but opportunities still exist for a great day of cragging. Approaches involve hiking through six to eight inches of snow, but with the right set of conditions and gear, climbing can be surprisingly doable in the winter.

Many of the south facing slopes in the Icicle Canyon are now partially snow free. Temperatures remain in the low thirties, so look for areas that get a good dose of sunshine throughout the day and get it while you can. Forecasts call for a 50% chance of snow on Thursday then partially sunny skies through the 22nd.
