Yesterday I was fortunate to be a part of the First Stevens Pass Bird Camp of the year. The goal of the Bird Camp which is hosted by Michael ( Bird ) Shaffer is to introduce young skiers to the many different aspects of big mountain freeriding. We worked on steep technique, how to safely navigate in high angle terrain, and adapt to the variable conditions one can expect to encounter off the groomed trails. We had a very informative mountain safety talk high atop Cowboy Ridge from Stevens Pass, mountain master, and long time patroller Clay. Most importantly a good time was had by all.
