Here’s the behind the lens scoop on how photographer Shane Wilder managed to nab this amazing shot of lightening in downtown Leavenworth last night...

The Clock hit 10:30 pm and I was tired so I called it a day and hit the pillow, only to see bright flashes of light coming into the bedroom windows. I jumped up and walked outside to find an amazingly beautiful display of mother nature’s rare lightning show.

There were so many flashes so fast. The lightning was popping about every 5 seconds. I thought I better get my gear and see if I could capture this fast moving storm. I grabbed a Nikon D4 with a 24-70 and a Nikon D700 with a 14-24 a couple tripods and headed downtown to try to get it. I got home around 1:00 am but the adventure into the night sky and our beloved Leavenworth was well worth missing a few hours sleep.

I was shooting about 10 second exposures at f5 or so. Here is a shot of me shooting the D4. I had both cameras shooting on interval timers about 3 seconds apart. I got 3 really cool shots and this one of them. More lightning please!
