The spell has been broken. There is snow in the mountains and the riding is good. The previous storm cycle that hit the Northwest began to ramp up last Monday the 26th and each day the conditions were progressively better. Although the snowpack is still low for this time of year, we’ll take it. No new snow in the past 24 hours, but there is still knee deep powder to be found in secret (and maybe not so secret) stashes.
While the spoils typically go to those who work the hardest, trudging up boot packs and traversing along ridges, sometimes the good stuff is right off the lift…especially when you get first tracks. The video below was shot in one run, 3 minutes and 28 seconds, on December 31st, when the snow was fresh and for a brief moment, the sun came out.
